Dear Mr. Mahdi,
Ablation has the meaning “to destroy”. Ablation on heart is a procedure that aims to destroy or “burn” one or a few small areas in your heart that cause heart rhythm disturbances.
After areas causing heart rhythm disturbances are found, specific catheter inserted into the heart through the groin area. The problem areas can be marked with 3D mapping or detected directly by signal from electrodes placed on the heart. Then, catheter is placed on the desired areas to eliminate the causes of heart rhythm disorders.
In addition to addressing heart rhythm disorders, ablation can be done to shrink enlarged heart muscle which causes blockage on the main artery (aorta). This procedure is usually done in the septal area (border between right and left ventricular chambers. Ablation was performed using alcohol to shut off the blood flow in that area. It takes about 2-3 hours.
